Analysis: Blade Runner and Scary Movie 2

 Blade Runner:

Costume:

-the costume of the woman character in the main image seems very formal which could connote as a serious film.

Lighting:

  • setting - dark lighting 
  • colours - white and dark yellow - sci-fi or technology

Actors:

  • Facial expression of the guy character (hero) seems stern - rivalry
  • Facial expression of the lady character (villain) seems serious - reinforces the idea of rivalry between two characters.
Props:

  • Gun - connote as violence
  • Cigarette - connote as bad which subverts the stereotypes of a woman 
Setting:

  • Buildings - reinforces the idea of the film being a scientific film
-The image of the woman character seems pixilated which reinforces the idea of sci-fi.

-The close-up shot of both characters enhances both of their facial expression such as the guy sweating which could connote as hard-working or anxious while the woman's character seems very composed as her expression seems neutral.

-Tagline - "Man has made his match... Now it's his problem" could reinforce as an idea of accidentally finding his partner where there could also be a hint of romance in the film.

-Enigma codes - mystery

-Action codes - creating tension

-Target audience could be someone who's an adult due to the R symbol at the bottom where the film could involve sex or violence.


Scary Movie 2:

Costume: 

  • A bit bright and colourful which subverts the idea of it being a horror film.
  • Use of "I love dead people" - intertexuality - reference to other text
Lighting:

  • Dark lighting - enigma codes - mystery
  • Bright light at the back may seem as if the characters are watching a movie.
Actors:

  • Facial expressions of the actors seems very unserious - subverts a horror film
  • Silly faces - humour -parody (exaggerated conventions)
Setting:

  • Dark and enigmatic
Typography:

  • Sans serif which suggests that it's casual and not really scary
Tagline - repetition

-Ensemble cast 

-Long shot - to show the whole character and are part of the film.

-The film's target audience could be teenagers or young adults as the facial expressions of the characters are unserious which could be personally relating to the character due to their humour.

-The critic's quote "Absolutely Hilarious!" could reinforce the film as more of a comedy than a horror film.

-The colour choice of the critic's quote as yellow could connote as being bright which subverts the idea of horror films as most horror film use black or red for the film.
