WWW:
  • Fade in / out
  • Match on action - door opening, sitting down, walk through doors
  • Handheld tracking shot
  • Post-production - use of titles, B&W CCTV cameras
  • Simple narrative
  • Detailed planning (=character point)
EBI:
  • A more coherent and developed narrative

2) Type up your feedback from fellow students.
WWW:

- Good planning

- Sound track

- Props

- Match on action

- 180 degree rule

- Good use on angles

EBI:

- More developed narative

3) Now reflect on your video. Did you meet the brief and successfully include the three key editing aspects we have learned?
I was able to successfully include the three key editing aspects that we have learned. (I80 degree rule, match on action and shot/reverse/shot). However, the shot/reverse/shot could have been longer.

4) What were the strengths and weaknesses of your final film? Write a detailed analysis picking out specific shots, edits and any other aspect of film language you think is relevant.
The strengths of my video was that I was able to produce a video that has the key editing aspects, especially the match on actions that I was able to connect the clips together at the right time such as, when the character was opening the door, when the character sat down and when the character walks through doors. In addition, I was able to produce more than one match on action as well as not breaking the 180 degree rule when the characters were talking. Also, I was able to use my editing skills such as the transition of fading in / out from when the characters were sitting to my character going to lesson, which shows that time was moving. Furthermore, the use of the editing in post-production where there was a high angle shot of the character to mimic a CCTV camera as well as the B&W filter and the titles. However, my weakness is the idea that my video was not long and the narrative was not developed and clear as it only showed the characters asking for work and going to lesson, I think it would have been better if I added a good plot to it.

5) Learner response: what aspect of editing did you find most difficult? What have you learned from this process that will help you when you start the actual coursework later this year?
The aspects of editing that I find the most difficult was connecting the clips at the right time as you have to be sophisticated to allow the clips to flow together in harmony. Also, I also find it difficult to imrpove my videos when the clips that I have recorded are limited, which also links to the idea of a more developed narrative. I have learned from this process that I have to start thinking on how to develop my narratives more and recording the clips longer based on what I have planned out.
