  1) Find a film clip on YouTube that uses sound in an interesting way. Analyse the use of sound, making sure you use the key language we have learned about sound in film: Diegetic and non-diegetic sound Parallel and contrapuntal sound Sound bridges Remember to discuss/analyse all the different types of sound present in the clip: Music Dialogue Voiceover Sound effects You also need to  highlight  or put in bold any use of media language. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CmmKmlXD9I&list=PLZbXA4lyCtqoz8ky83rwKGuFqg35rbzct&index=1 I used the film A Quiet place where in this clip the sound the diegetic sounds that were used were the sound of the leaves rustling, the bare footsteps, the creaking of the bridge, the flow of the water, the muffled sound for the deaf character, the sound of the toy, the cricket of the monster, and the scream of the child at the end, which was a bit faint. These sounds were used to connote the idea of building tension or inte...

Practical assignment: parallel and contrapuntal sound video

Parallel and contrapuntal sound: 3.  Media sound practical Me and Sanjivanni created a video which shows how the sound and the image are parallel (parallel sound) where it shows baby pictures until it reaches 30 seconds, the sound is also a kid's song which we got from YouTube. After 30 seconds, the images change to when we're teenagers which is the present day, where it then has a contrapuntal sound due to the kid's song contradicting with the images as it's not what you would expect to hear for teenage images. We've created this to allow the audience to reflect on how far they've become and to reflect on everything they've been through.

Lighting blog task

Image
  1) Still image analysis Look at the still images on slides 33-37 of the Film Language Powerpoint linked above. Copy the images into your blog and answer the following questions for each image: Identify examples of high and low-key lighting. Say which depict top, back or under lighting. What effects are created by the lighting in each image?      1. Low-key lighting connoting enigma, where the light focuses on the smoke which could connote that she could be hiding something. 2. The lighting seems to be coming from the back or side of the female character to kind of emphasise her facial expression which could also suggest that she's the villain. 3.The effects created by lighting could be the idea that she's the villain due to the light not being totally directed at her which could connote that she may have a dual character or the idea that she could be hiding something. 1. It is a low-key lighting, connoting...

Reading list and wider opportunities

I read about the MM52 media magazine and it shows how there's a lot in the media that we can get information from. The magazine talks about the politics, ideology, power, and the media, where it shows how the media producers are trying to produce and get more information on diverse ideas. In addition, they talk about the BBC archive, which gives me an idea on what BBC produced and how it was in the media history, which is interesting as it shows the past news and how was social media like back then. An example of this could be the interviews with Martin Luther King, Orson Welles and Muhammad Ali. Furthermore, it also tells me about the great of British commedy, politics and literature, which shows how the media has changed throughout as well as the history in society. Also, it gives me information of the case for global film where the whole concept of film is artistic and creativity, showing how the industry and culture have changed and developed as well as the wide group in the ...
