Mise-en-scene blog task
Costume:
The female character's costume seems very elegant and sophisticated, reinforcing her femininity.
The male character's costume which is a polo shirt seems very formal but also casual at the same time which could connote that he's professionality and how he's trying to comfort the female character.
Both character's costume is white which could connote their friendliness and peacefulness which could give the audience an idea that they are the protagonist and on the good side.
Lighting:
There's a high-key lighting on the light that the female character is holding onto and the candles in front of them which could connote that the lights kind of gives off the comfort zone vibe where the characters would need it for their journey. It could also connote the idea of the lights being the cause of revealing something in the darkness.
The low-key lighting around them could give off enigma codes due to the fact that there's no light around them except the torch and the candles, this could also connote the idea of intensity and danger as there could already be something bad around them that they just couldn't see.
Actors:
The facial expression of the female character seems shocked and in complete disbelief which could connote the idea that she saw something that looks terrible and negative and could potentially be danger, this is also reinforced with the fact that her mouth is open.
The facial expression of the male character seems in disbelief as well reinforcing the idea of something that they could be scared of but his facial expression also seems stern which again reinforces the idea of danger and how he's still trying to be rigid due to the idea that he's reinforcing stereotypes of a man being fierce and brave.
The body language of the female character seems like she's still which again reinforces that she saw something that stopped her in her tracks or there's a revelation happening. Also, the body language of the male character seems like he's ready in action which could connote that he's determined or ready to save the female character which could be the damsel in distress.
Make-up/Hair:
The make up of the female character is simple which could connote her elegance and that she's not very much into make up and also the idea that she focuses on other things such as trying to reveal something in the dark which could be the enigma codes.
Props:
The female character is holding a torch light which could connote that she's was expecting for the setting to be dark that's why she's prepared, which again connotes the enigma codes as to why she needed that torch. In addition, the candle props could connote the idea of a ritual or something that has to do with negative energy, reinforcing the idea of enigma and thrill.
Setting:
The setting seems to be very dark and abandoned which could connote that it is neglected probably due to the idea that it has some dark nature.
1.First 60 seconds Exterritorial
Costume:
-The costume of the main character seems very casual as it's just a blue cardigan and pants this could connote that she's not very much into fashion and probably focuses on other things that she prioritises. Her costume also contrasts her actions as she doesn't seem sporty at all when just looking at her costume. Also, the costume of the villains which are the ones that seems to be wearing a uniform could connote the idea that they are working for someone higher than them, suggesting the idea that someone could be watching them. In addition the sidekick of the protagonist seems to also be wearing a casual clothing which could connote the idea that she's not expecting the attack from the villains, which is also reinforced with the fact that she doesn't seem to know how to fight.
Lighting:
The lighting shows a high key lighting in the centre which could connote the idea that it's focusing on the main character and how she performs a fight, which could also connote that she's the protagonist and the good character. The low key lighting around her and the room could connote the idea that there could be dangers around her and that someone could possibly be watching her, leading to violence.
Actors:
The facial expression of the protagonist seems to be stern, connoting her bravery and how she's used to using her skills when fighting other people usually the villains. In addition, her body language seems to be very aware reinforcing the idea that she's probably trained to use her fighting skills. Although the camera didn't really focus much on the sidekick her body language shows how she doesn't fight like the protagonist which could connote that she's not train to fight and could be that she's not the type of person to have someone to fight with.
Make up
Both female characters doesn't really have a make up on they are shown raw with their own natural beauty, connoting the idea that both are confident with just the natural beauty, this could also connote that the protagonist is a fighter and preserves more of her time on fighting and training.
Props:
The props that the protagonist used is the toilet lid to hit the villain which could connote the idea that she wasn't ready to fight against the villains as she didn't have any weapon on her. This could also connote the idea that she's used to fist fights rather than gun fights.
Setting:
The setting shows that they seem to be in a room that looks like a dorm as it has two beds which also looked like a small apartment, connoting that they're supposed to be in peace and alone but it seems like it's the opposite for the scene as there seems to be intruders.
Costume:
The costume of the female character seems very casual as she's only wearing a hoodie which could connote the idea that she's comfortable and doesn't really care what others would think. Whilst, the costume of the male character seems to give the idea of a cowboy style which could connote that being with horses could be his hobby and that he's passionate about it.
Lighting:
The scene seems to have a high-key lighting throughout which could connote the idea of having a positive vibe and the film could be about happiness and possibly romance as there's only the two of them in that scene.
Actors:
The facial expression of both of the characters seems to be bright and cocky which connote the idea that both characters are comfortable with each other. In addition, the body language of the female character when using the lasso shows how she knows how to use it and was able to capture the male character which could connote the idea that she's used to using the lasso, reinforcing the idea that she might also be used around horses.
Make up:
The female character's make up shows that she's not really wearing one or of she is it's just simple which could connote that she's very authentic with herself and could also connote that she's confident with her natural beauty and also the idea that she has an approachable personality, where the audience could be personally relating to her.
Props:
The lasso is used as a prop which could connote that Western culture and cowboy skills. In addition, the male character is wearing a cowboy hat which could reinforce the idea that he's passionate about cowboy and the idea that it could be a sense of cultural identity from American West.
Setting:
The setting shows how they're near a stable which could connote that they're working with the horses and that it could be traditional, this could also connote the idea of wealth and the idea that it has been passed down to generations.
Both films are very different from each other as their mise-en-scene seems to have a binary opposition of light and dark as the first film seems to be focused on action and fighting where it's very dark and enigmatic whereas, the second film is more on the positive vibe and could possible focus on romance.
