Editing: blog analysis

Your final analytical blog task is to find a film or television clip on YouTube that you feel has been edited in a distinctive way and write a  750 word analysis  of the clip. Hot Fuzz (2007) opening scene  From 30 seconds of the opening scene, it starts off smoothly with the doors automatically opening as the male character starts walking. The lighting of this part is from behind to produce a silhouette , which kind of gives an enigma as the identity of the character is unknown. In addition, the camera in this part starts to slowly move towards the character, giving a sense of suspense and how it shows that the audiences' focus should be on that character. There's also a diegetic sounds where we could hear the footsteps of the character getting louder as they get closer, connoting that the narrative is intensifying.  The lighting when the identity of the male character was shown, shows how on both sides there is different lighting both high-key and low-...

Editing video planning

  1. Preliminary exercise: The setting will be in school where the character will be recorded walking, reaching for the door handle. One character would be Alezey and the two other characters as her friends are me and Sanjivani. As the character pulls the door handle down, the camera will shift to another angle and the character would be recorded walking towards her friends. The friends would then be talking about the work that's due on that day, where the character is then going to ask if her friends have done the work. Her friends would say yes and would allow her to copy their work. The time would be shown that it had already passed by using a transition , dissolved. This would show my character walking to her lesson with a range of different shots and match on actions. 2. Script:   INT - COMMON ROOM Alezey opens the door with her hand on the wall and walks towards the table where Kaye and Sanjivani sit. Alezey sits at the table. Alezey Have you guys done the homework? ...

Cinematography video feedback/learner response

  1) Type up your feedback/comments from your teacher. WWW: Good location Appropriate music Simple effective angle Use if close ups OTS + Long shot Good fade at the end EBI: More developed narrative 2) Type up your feedback from fellow students. WWW: Good editing Range of shots and angles Song choice Use of setting Transitions EBI: High exposure No narrative 3) Now reflect on your work and write your own summary of the comments and feedback you have received. Write three WWWs and three EBIs. For my WWW I was able to get a range of different shots and angles as much as I can, I was able to put transitions and choose a song that is parallel to the scene and the narrative, which is upbeat and optimistic. For my EBI, I could have done better if I have a more developed narrative to be more creative and if I checked the editing and recording before posting it as it came out too bright and the exposure was high.  4) L earner response: think about what you lea...
